The future of Austrian Long-Term Ecological Research: Status, Challenges and Concepts

In the last years long-term ecological research has been confronted with massive changes in requested topics, technological possibilities and societal perception as well as in terms of funding and support.
With this conference LTER-Austria wants to initiate a national re-orientation of the reserach area and it´s setting:

  • What are the priority topics of research?
  • What are the required conditions for realising potentials?
  • How can Austria successfully engage int the international context?

Thus, LTER-Austria presents the peer reviewed White Paper 'Next Generation LTER in Austria' - Status quo and Re-Orientation of Long-Term Ecosystem Research, Biodiversity and Nature Protection Research as well as Socio-Ecological Research in Austria.

Within the frame of a panel discussion important stakeholders comment on the White Paper. International experts present an overview of the development of the research area in North America and Europe. The programme finishes with presentations of Austrian researchers from the field of ecological long-term research and an comprehensive poster exhibition of all Austrian LTER Sites and LTSER Platforms.
