Today, our freshwater resources, their availability, and their supply in terms of volume and quality are increasingly limited by the available energy resources. For the foreseeable future, management of freshwater resources is a crucial task that can only be accomplished sustainably by integrating energy management. These multifaceted management responsibilities are linked to each other and are therefore highly complicated. At its conference and exhibition, IWRM Karlsruhe 2014 will be addressing this inherent complexity from the point of view of water management in three thematic groups.Firstly, we take a look at water – with its functional characteristics and the economic as well as social implications of providing it – as an independent product and as a component of products. Available for use or further development here is a broad field of methodologies and technologies whose presentation will benefit from lively dialogue with lectures and exhibits.
Secondly, we cover the necessary infrastructures for providing water resources with the right quality in the right place and under the right circumstances. Water and sewage logistics are sought here, backed up by management systems and implementation technologies as the content of the exhibition. Risk management, with its warning and “all-clear” strategies, is included as a highly topical issue. Generally, we expect contributions on implemented and future concepts for nationally and transnationally usable practices, not least from the fields of work on guidelines and regulation, too.
The third block of key issues deals with the future’s essential questions concerning water management, from the effects of climate change right through to water governance.
The organisers of IWRM Karlsruhe 2014 look forward to a highly informative exchange between all participants and the offerings of the exhibition and conference. We expressly welcome reports, posters, and exhibits relating to completed projects and the experience gained from them.
