The main aim of the meeting is to summarize the progress in using active netting gear, such as trawls, beach and purse seines for the population estimates. Special attention will be paid to the limitations, selectivity, efficiency and standardization of active sampling gear.

However, the contributions on other active approaches of fish sampling including remote techniques (hydroacoustic and optical observations) and other principles of direct capture are welcome. The application of active fish sampling is no way limited by the habitats, so the contributions from lakes, rivers, streams, transitional waters and seas as well as inter-calibration comparisons between active and passive sampling gear are invited.
