Would you like to:
• Present your biodiversity/environment-related science to the public?
• Gain new skills and confidence in public presentation and dialogue?
• Establish contacts with and present your science in local museums, botanic gardens, zoos and other places?
The European Network of Excellence ALTER-Net and Ecsite, the European Network of Science Centres and Museums are offering a practical, hands-on, two-day training course on science communication for scientists in the ALTER-Net network.
What will I learn?
The course will provide you with the skills and confidence you need to present your research to the public. Speaking tips, how to use images or objects to help get your point across, how to address different audiences are just some of the skills you will learn from an experienced and dynamic international training team who will involve you with all your senses. Specific issues and challenges related to biodiversity and environment-related topics will be addressed and best practices and examples of good communication in this domain will be presented, to ensure that you gain the practical tools you need to communicate your topic effectively to the lay public, whether in an ctivity for children or in a public dialogue. We will also help you establish contacts with venues near you where you can communicate your research directly to the public.
Is this for me?
If you are a scientist (PhD and upwards) this course may be for you, whether you have ever presented to the public or not. Twelve participants will be selected for each course from across ALTER-Net to optimize the mix of regions, disciplines and gender. The course is held in English.
The training sessions
Two sessions are planned:
• 13-14 November at Museon, the Hague, the Netherlands.
