First Mountain LTER workshop
A first workshop was held at the Col du Lautaret in September 2011 to establish a Mountain LTER network. On the initiative of the LTSER platform Central French Alps, five LTER sites/LTSER platforms and representatives of the Mountain Research Institute (MRI) and the Global Mountain Biodiversity Assessment (GMBA) discussed during the two days the aim and scope of a Mountain LTER network. The participants agreed to foster collaboration between their sites by working on a research question already common to all sites: What are the long-term consequences of land-use and climate changes in mountain areas?
The LTER sites/LTSER platforms assisting were:
- LTER Niwot Ridge, USA
- LTSER Sierre Nevada, Spain
- LTSER High elevation sites in Northwestern Alps, Italy
- LTSER Tyrolean High Alps, Austria
- LTER Furka, Switzerland
- LTSER Central French Alps, France
