The newly established Department of Remote Sensing in UFZ in tandem with the Remote Sensing Centre for Earth System Research (RSC4Earth) - a joint initiative of UFZ and the Faculty of Physics and Earth Sciences at Leipzig University - conducts innovative research to advance the understanding of the Earth system via the integration of various remote sensing, data science, and process-oriented modelling techniques. Within the PhD framework "MoDEV - Towards novel model-data fusion for understanding environmental variability in space and time from high-resolution remote sensing" the organizations are seeking to appoint four highly motivated PhD candidates for the following topics:

PhD position 1: Remote Sensing of Biodiversity

PhD position 2: Remote Sensing of soil moisture dynamics

PhD position 3: Climate extremes in tropical ecosystems - an assessment through data and models

PhD position 4: Remote Sensing of land-atmosphere coupling and hydro-climatic extremes

These positions are preferred to start on 1 February 2021. The UFZ is looking forward to applications from highly motivated, creative, and independent candidates who enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams. Please submit your full application to a specific PhD project via the links provided above.
